When we have to explain the fear of Friday the 13th, we have to look back in time.

Friday the 13th is an annoying day according to a lot of people, and in 2012 we will have three Friday the 13th.

But why is this day so scary?

It is not only connect to the popular film series about Friday the 13th. There are many more underlying causes. The connection between the number 13 and Friday is relatively new, but separately the number and the day have both been connected to something negative.

Friday is connected to bad luck as it was the day that Jesus was crucified. Another explanation is found in the myth that you can not start new work on a Friday, because then it will not be completed, and you can’t get married on a Friday, as it would prevent you from having children.

The number is…13

Some people suffer from a fobia, called paraskavedekatria; the fear of the number 13.

A lot of hotels around the world doesn’t have a 13th floor, and even some airports don’t have a gate called Gate 13. The same goes for several surgery rooms in many hospitals.

Some attribute the fear of the number 13 to the story of The Last Supper, where Judas, the disciple who betrayed Jesus, was the 13th to sit at the table.

However most of us love Fridays, as it is the door to the weekend…as long as it is not on the 13th.
